Outubro. Vieram da Escócia para casarem em Cervães, e trouxeram com eles tudo o que importava.
Há casamentos que se fazem em casa. Há casamentos que se atravessam para se fazerem. O de Jen e Peter foi do segundo tipo: uma celebração inteiramente escocesa, com toda a precisão do protocolo, do tartan ao thistle, mas pensada para acontecer longe da Escócia, num lugar que respeitasse o seu peso. A Torre de Gomariz, com a sua torre medieval, os seus oliveiras antigas e o seu silêncio, deu-lhes esse palco.
A noiva escolheu um vestido bordado, leve, com uma coroa de eucalipto, hipericão e flores brancas. O noivo, kilt em tartan da família, tweed verde, meias altas, brogues. Cada peça com a sua história, cada cor com a sua linhagem. Em Cervães, tudo isto encontrou luz portuguesa do outono e ficou.
October. They came from Scotland to marry in Cervães, and brought with them everything that mattered.
Some weddings are made at home. Others must be crossed to be made. Jen and Peter's was of the second kind: an entirely Scottish celebration, with all the precision of protocol, from tartan to thistle, conceived to take place far from Scotland, in a place that could honour its weight. Torre de Gomariz, with its medieval tower, its ancient olive trees and its silence, gave them that stage.
The bride chose an embroidered dress, light, with a crown of eucalyptus, hypericum and white flowers. The groom, kilt in the family tartan, green tweed, knee-high socks, brogues. Each piece with its story, each colour with its lineage. In Cervães, all of this met the Portuguese light of autumn and stayed.

O pai da noiva conduziu-a ao altar também em kilt, segundo a tradição. Os homens da família apresentaram-se em tartans diferentes, cada um a representar o seu próprio clã, num retrato de grupo que mais parecia uma fotografia documental do que uma fotografia de casamento. Cada detalhe da indumentária tinha uma história, e era preciso entendê-la para a tratar com a justiça que merecia.
The bride's father walked her to the altar in kilt, as tradition holds. The men of the family appeared in different tartans, each representing his own clan, in a group portrait closer to documentary photography than to a wedding photograph. Every detail of the attire held a story, and it had to be understood before it could be treated with the fairness it deserved.
Foi este o casamento que, em 2018, recebeu o prémio de Best Cultural Wedding pela Belief Wedding Creators. Não pela beleza isolada das imagens, mas pelo cuidado em traduzir uma cultura inteira num outro lugar, sem a diluir nem a folclorizar. Foi exactamente isso o que aprendemos a fazer com Jen e Peter: tratar uma tradição estrangeira com a mesma atenção que daríamos à nossa.
This was the wedding that, in 2018, received the Best Cultural Wedding award by Belief Wedding Creators. Not for the isolated beauty of the images, but for the care in translating an entire culture into another place, without diluting it or making it folkloric. That is exactly what we learned to do with Jen and Peter: to treat a foreign tradition with the same attention we would give to our own.

A propriedade desenrola-se entre a torre medieval, os jardins de oliveiras e os bosques húmidos do Vale do Cávado. Foi neste enquadramento que se fizeram os retratos do casal, sem cenografia, deixando o lugar trabalhar a luz. O outono português, em Outubro, deu a Jen e Peter algo que a Escócia não lhes podia dar nesse mês: o sol baixo, dourado, sobre as folhas caídas, sem a urgência da chuva.
The estate unfolds between the medieval tower, the olive gardens and the damp woodlands of the Vale do Cávado. It was within this frame that the couple's portraits were made, without staging, allowing the place to work the light. Portuguese autumn, in October, gave Jen and Peter something Scotland could not give them that month: the low, golden sun over fallen leaves, without the urgency of rain.
A cerimónia teve as suas canções tradicionais, os seus brindes em gaélico, os seus momentos em silêncio. O bolo cortou-se ao fim da tarde, à torre, com a luz a entrar por entre o granito. Foi um dia inteiramente escocês, executado com a precisão que a tradição exige, e respeitado por quem nele participou como se estivesse em Edimburgo.
The ceremony had its traditional songs, its toasts in Gaelic, its moments of silence. The cake was cut at dusk, by the tower, with the light entering between the granite. It was an entirely Scottish day, executed with the precision tradition demands, and honoured by those who took part as if they were in Edinburgh.
Há casamentos em que tudo o que importa cabe nas imagens. E há outros em que o que importa só se entende quando se conhece a história por detrás de cada gesto. O de Jen e Peter pertenceu ao segundo tipo. O thistle no peito não foi flor, foi símbolo nacional. O kilt não foi indumentária, foi linhagem. O violino não foi entretenimento, foi prece. Tudo o que estava em cena tinha já vivido muitos anos antes daquele dia.
Some weddings hold everything that matters within the images. Others can only be understood once the story behind each gesture is known. Jen and Peter's belonged to the second kind. The thistle on the chest was not a flower, it was a national symbol. The kilt was not attire, it was lineage. The violin was not entertainment, it was prayer. Everything on the scene had already lived many years before that day.
Vieram da Escócia para casarem em Cervães. Trouxeram com eles tudo o que importava: o tartan, a música, a família, a memória. Não trouxeram só uma cultura. Trouxeram a maneira de a respeitar.
They came from Scotland to marry in Cervães. They brought with them everything that mattered: the tartan, the music, the family, the memory. They did not only bring a culture. They brought the way to honour it.
