Vinte e um de Junho. O dia mais longo do ano em Casa de Sezim, vestido inteiramente de branco.
Joana e Francisco escolheram Casa de Sezim por aquilo que ela é, e não pelo que se lhe possa acrescentar. Cinco séculos de história, frescos panorâmicos pintados em França no século dezanove, candelabros de cristal antigos, e a luz que entra pelas portadas brancas e desenha o resto. Para um lugar destes, decidiram trabalhar em três tons apenas: branco, dourado, e o calor das paredes de Sezim ao fim do dia.
As pérolas foram a primeira decisão. Não como acessório, mas como linha estética que atravessa toda a celebração: três fios ao pescoço da Joana, na encadernação do caderno dos votos, na própria forma como as flores se compõem, abertas e simples, com o brilho calmo de quem não precisa de luz própria.
The twenty-first of June. The longest day of the year at Casa de Sezim, dressed entirely in white.
Joana and Francisco chose Casa de Sezim for what it is, not for what could be added to it. Five centuries of history, panoramic frescoes painted in France in the nineteenth century, antique crystal chandeliers, and the light that enters through the white shutters and draws the rest. For a place like this, they decided to work in three tones only: white, gold, and the warmth of the Sezim walls at the end of the day.
Pearls were the first decision. Not as an accessory, but as the aesthetic line running through the entire celebration: three strands at Joana's neck, in the binding of the vow book, in the very way the flowers compose themselves, open and simple, with the calm shine of those who do not need their own light.

O ramo era de peónias brancas. O vestido, satin escultórico de decote quadrado, com a austeridade dos anos sessenta e a simplicidade dos vestidos que não precisam de adornos. O Francisco, smoking branco com laço papillon preto, contra os sete groomsmen em smoking escuro, no salão dos retratos. Um único contraste de cor em todo o dia.
The bouquet was of white peonies. The dress, sculptural satin with a square neckline, with the austerity of the sixties and the simplicity of dresses that need no ornament. Francisco in white tuxedo with black papillon bow, against the seven groomsmen in dark tuxedo, in the portrait hall. A single contrast of colour through the entire day.
O cocktail aconteceu sob sombrinhas riscadas verde e branco, junto às hortênsias, num bar onde se serviram bebidas geladas em garrafas de cortiça. As paredes coral da propriedade, em fundo, fizeram o trabalho que muitos eventos tentam fazer com flores artificiais: deram cor sem competir.
The cocktail unfolded beneath green and white striped umbrellas, beside the hydrangeas, at a bar serving chilled drinks in cork-stoppered bottles. The coral walls of the estate, in the background, did the work that many events try to do with artificial flowers: they gave colour without competing.

A propriedade tem várias divisões pintadas à mão, com cenas exóticas, paisagens distantes, minaretes e palmeiras. Foi numa destas salas, sob um candelabro de cristal, que se fizeram os retratos formais. Não foi preciso decoração. As paredes já vivem.
The estate holds several hand-painted rooms, with exotic scenes, distant landscapes, minarets and palm trees. It was in one of these rooms, beneath a crystal chandelier, that the formal portraits were made. No decoration was needed. The walls already live.
Para a mesa, sete pequenas composições centrais em taças de cristal antigo, e dezenas de vasos altos com rosas brancas a alinhar toda a sua extensão. Talheres dourados, velas, pequenas bombonières atadas com fita de cetim. Cada lugar marcado com um cartão escrito à mão.
For the table, seven small central compositions in antique crystal bowls, and dozens of tall vases of white roses lining its length. Gold cutlery, candles, small bonbonnières tied with satin ribbon. Each place marked with a hand-written card.
As luzes acenderam ao primeiro escurecer. Mil pequenas luzes suspensas em arcos, por cima das mesas do pátio. Os convidados sentaram-se. A Joana e o Francisco brindaram. Houve gritos. Houve uma noiva levantada do chão, sem que ninguém tivesse de pedir. Houve uma fotografia de pés descalços no jardim, ao fim da noite, que ninguém viu naquele momento mas que ficou.
The lights came on at first dusk. A thousand small lights suspended in arches, above the courtyard tables. The guests sat down. Joana and Francisco raised their glasses. There were shouts. There was a bride lifted from the ground, without anyone having to ask. There was a photograph of bare feet in the garden, late in the night, that no one saw at the time but that stayed.

A noite chegou ao fim. O dia, esse, prolongou-se. Casa de Sezim acolheu os noivos, os padrinhos e os amigos mais próximos, e a manhã seguinte recolheu-se à piscina, em conversa baixa, sem pressa. Algumas celebrações ficam, mesmo depois de partirem.
The night came to an end. The day extended itself. Casa de Sezim held the couple, the witnesses and the closest friends, and the following morning settled around the pool, in low conversation, without hurry. Some celebrations stay, even after they leave.
