Mariana e Matheus vieram de longe. Casaram diante de um templete sobre a água. A vontade era a mesma: ficar.
A Quinta das Torres, em Azeitão, foi construída no século dezasseis como casa de campo de inspiração renascentista. Tem jardins italianizantes, fontes antigas, e um lago central com um pequeno templete de pedra que parece desenhado para acolher exactamente este momento.
Mariana e Matheus vieram do Brasil para esta celebração. Trouxeram consigo a história de uma travessia longa: horas de estrada, travessias sucessivas só para estarem juntos. A casa portuguesa de quase cinco séculos recebeu-os como se já os esperasse.
Mariana and Matheus came from far away. They married before a stone pavilion over the water. The wish was the same on both sides: to stay.
Quinta das Torres, in Azeitão, was built in the sixteenth century as a Renaissance-inspired country house. It holds Italianate gardens, ancient fountains, and a central lake with a small stone pavilion that seems designed to host precisely this moment.
Mariana and Matheus came from Brazil for this celebration. They brought with them the story of a long crossing: hours of road, successive journeys only to be together. The Portuguese house, almost five centuries old, received them as if it had already been waiting.

A cerimónia aconteceu junto ao lago, com o templete em fundo e o sol já alto. Um arco em delfínios azuis, hortênsias claras, rosas brancas, montado em duas colunas que pareciam crescer da terra. Cadeiras de palhinha em meia-lua. Um corredor que terminava em água.

The ceremony took place beside the lake, with the pavilion in the background and the sun already high. An arch of blue delphiniums, pale hydrangeas, white roses, set on two columns that seemed to rise from the earth. Cane chairs in a half-moon. An aisle that ended in water.

Depois da troca de votos, o primeiro brinde foi à beira do lago, com taças geladas e copos de espresso martini. A noiva carregava um ramo só de peónias brancas em peso, do qual quase não largou a mão durante toda a tarde.
O cocktail foi assinado pela Mad Kitchen, com momentos de serviço pensados como pequenos espectáculos. Uma das chefs apareceu com uma gaiola preta na mão, e dela serviu canapés desenhados como ninhos, com uma pena de pavão sobre a cúpula da gaiola. As fontes antigas da quinta receberam, durante a tarde, pétalas brancas e azuis a flutuar sobre a água parada.
After the exchange of vows, the first toast happened beside the lake, with chilled coupes and espresso martini glasses. The bride carried a dense bouquet of white peonies alone, from which she barely let her hand drift through the entire afternoon.
The cocktail was signed by Mad Kitchen, with service moments conceived as small spectacles. One of the chefs appeared with a black cage in her hand, and served from it canapés designed as nests, with a peacock feather over the cage's dome. Through the afternoon, the estate's ancient fountains received white and blue petals floating over still water.
Entre o cocktail e o jantar, atravessou-se a quinta a pé. As paredes da casa cobertas de hera centenária, o reflexo dos noivos no lago, a luz a quebrar entre os plátanos antigos. Foi um intervalo curto, sem fotografias formais. Apenas a luz e o tempo, do lado certo.
Between cocktail and dinner, the estate was crossed on foot. The walls of the house covered in centuries-old ivy, the reflection of the couple in the lake, the light breaking through the ancient plane trees. It was a short interval, without formal photographs. Only the light and the time, on the right side.

Mais tarde, num intervalo entre o jantar e a pista, os noivos passaram pelo salão dos troféus, onde a casa guarda lembranças das suas caçadas antigas. Foi a única piscadela à formalidade do dia. Óculos escuros, sorriso lateral, e o piso de xadrez a fazer o resto.
Later, in an interval between dinner and the dance floor, the couple passed through the trophy hall, where the house keeps mementoes of its former hunts. It was the only wink to the formality of the day. Dark glasses, sideways smile, and the chequered floor doing the rest.

Do lado de fora, a propriedade continuava a respirar como sempre. A casa antiga, as vinhas em volta, a Serra da Arrábida ao fundo. Quinta das Torres permanece. Mas para Mariana e Matheus, passou a ser também uma data, um lugar, e a história de uma noite.
Outside, the estate continued to breathe as it always had. The ancient house, the surrounding vineyards, the Serra da Arrábida behind. Quinta das Torres endures. But for Mariana and Matheus, it became also a date, a place, and the story of one night.

Há sempre fotografias que não cabem no fio principal de uma celebração. Um brinde discreto a meio da cerimónia. A casa principal coberta de hera, vista pelos plátanos centenários. Estes são os momentos em que o casamento já não pertence à organização. Pertence apenas a quem o vive.
There are always photographs that do not fit the main thread of a celebration. A discreet toast mid-ceremony. The main house covered in ivy, seen through the centuries-old plane trees. These are the moments when the wedding no longer belongs to the planning. It belongs only to those who live it.
A vontade era gémea: ficar. Ficar e não pensar em mais nada.
The wish was twin: to stay. To stay and think of nothing else.
